In summer 2013 six friends from Hampshire had an amazing holiday in Carvoeiro, on the Algarve coast, Portugal.
Jennifer Woods, Southampton Airport Commercial Executive was amongst the group and shares her experience and top tips.
Where did you stay?
We stayed in a villa about 15 minutes’ walk from the sandy beaches of Carvoeiro. The town was very picturesque, and the local people were friendly.
What about transport?
We did have a car, but it is not essential as everything was within walking distance unless you wanted to venture further afield.
What’s the food and drink like?
On our first evening we were tired and it was late, we went to a restaurant called L’ Orange (in Carvoeiro) and asked to book a table for 6. Despite the fact that the restaurant was closing in ten minutes’ time, the staff were welcoming and said that they’d stay open especially for us. The meal was very tasty, lovely atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating.
The local fish meals were delicious; one restaurant we ate in called Onze had spectacular views over the bay and served octopus.
Any hidden gems or must-sees to recommend?
We visited some beautiful caves which you could walk to (after you have climbed down about 200 steps, but the view is worth it!).
Would you recommend it to your best friend?
Absolutely! Overall it was a fantastic holiday, we would definitely return as we enjoyed it so much.
